A weekend of historic firsts
The NASCAR Cup Series is back at North Wilkesboro Speedway this weekend, bringing with it a slate of firsts that have fans eager to see the historic track in action.
For the first time in the speedway’s history, the event will feature a 450‑lap points race, giving drivers the chance to earn championship points on a layout that has only recently reopened.
Executive Director Graig Hoffman emphasized that the race will be a true points event, drawing the top level of NASCAR competition and showcasing the 750‑horsepower Cup cars, the most powerful they have ever been.
Festivities kicked off Thursday night with the NASCAR hauler parade winding through Wilkesboro and North Wilkesboro, setting a celebratory tone for the weekend.
On Friday, NASCAR superstar Chase Elliott headlines the late‑model stock car tour, while Saturday’s Truck Series action precedes a live‑music concert.
Sunday’s pre‑race concert will feature the multi‑Gold Album country group Sawyer Brown, adding a musical highlight before the main event rolls around.
Fans have turned out in record numbers, with the grandstands filled to capacity as the track enjoys its third consecutive sell‑out All‑Star Race weekend.
