Mentoring the next generation
Scott Zipadelli, a seasoned crew chief in NASCAR’s Craftsman Truck Series, has recently reflected on how he reconciles a high‑octane racing career with the everyday moments that matter most to him.
His journey began in the Xfinity Series, where he amassed 273 starts, three wins, 35 top‑5 finishes and 91 top‑10 finishes, before relocating to North Carolina in the late 1990s to join Innovative Motorsports in the Cup Series.
A pivotal early achievement came when he helped assemble a car for Paul Newman that captured victory at Lime Rock Park, a moment that opened doors to professional stock‑car competition.
Since moving to the Truck Series, Zipadelli has become a mentor to emerging talent, guiding drivers such as Corey Heim and Kaden Honeycutt, the latter of whom finished third in the recent LiUNA 150.
At 56, he is a father of two boys, ages 10 and 13, and he credits the Truck Series with offering the most practical balance between competition and family time, a factor that has shaped his recent schedule.
His long‑standing involvement includes two season championships with his team, and he now measures success by the impact he has on drivers’ futures and the joy he finds in watching them progress.
