The excitement around NASCAR’s premier exhibition event is reaching a new peak this year as the All‑Star Race makes its debut at Dover Motor Speedway. For the first time in the race’s history, the storied showcase will be held at the 1 mile concrete oval in Delaware, swapping the familiar backdrop of Charlotte Motor Speedway for a fresh challenge.
A New Format for a New Setting
The event will now consist of two 75‑lap segments followed by a 200‑lap finale, a structure designed to increase on‑track action and give drivers multiple opportunities to showcase strategy. The change comes after the cancellation of the All‑Star Open, a staple since 1986, and marks the first time the Open will not be part of the weekend.
Traditionally, the All‑Star Race has been anchored at Charlotte, but recent years have seen the event travel to venues such as North Wilkesboro Speedway, which hosted the race from 2023 through 2025. Dover, however, has not staged a points‑racing event since 1968, adding a layer of historic significance to the upcoming weekend.
With 26 drivers slated to compete, the lineup is already taking shape. Nineteen competitors have secured their spots through performance metrics, while the remaining positions will be decided by a combination of the NASCAR Fan Vote and segment results. The fan vote guarantees at least one driver a place in the final segment, blending supporter influence with on‑track performance.
The racing order for the second segment will be inverted based on the top‑26 finishers of the first, creating a reverse‑grid showdown that promises overtaking battles. Single‑car qualifying will determine the starting lineup for the opening segment, ensuring that every driver has a chance to set the tone before the high‑stakes main event.
Beyond the on‑track drama, the move to Dover underscores NASCAR’s willingness to experiment with venue selection and race architecture. By integrating fan participation and a revamped segment system, the sport aims to deepen audience engagement while preserving the spectacle that has defined the All‑Star weekend for decades.
