Daytona Showdown Set for Prime Time
The 2026 NASCAR Cup Series will stage a 400‑mile race at Daytona International Speedway on the evening of August 29, with NBC and its streaming partner Peacock carrying the event live. The broadcast kicks off at 7 p.m. Eastern, and the green flag is expected around 7:30 p.m., giving viewers a prime‑time showdown under the lights.
The weekend’s schedule also includes a full slate of qualifying sessions on Friday, August 28, which will determine the starting lineup for both the Cup Series and the supporting O’Reilly Auto Parts Series, adding extra on‑track action before the main event.
Chase Kicks Off at Darlington
The race marks the opening round of the 2026 Chase for the Cup Series championship, a knockout format that narrows the field from 16 contenders to a final four over the course of four events. Denny Hamlin currently tops the standings with 1,001 points, holding a 25‑point advantage over Ryan Blaney, while a host of other drivers jockey for position.
Tyler Reddick captured the Daytona 500 earlier this year for 23XI Racing, the team co‑owned by basketball legend Michael Jordan, and his performance has added momentum to the championship battle. Ryan Blaney, who won the August 2025 Daytona race, will look to defend his recent success on the same track.
The 2026 schedule guarantees four marquee races on the NBC‑Peacock platform, including Daytona, Talladega Superspeedway, Martinsville Speedway and Homestead‑Miami Speedway, ensuring that millions of fans across the United States can follow the series on the same network.
As the green flag drops, the championship picture will feature a mix of seasoned veterans and rising talent, with the top 16 drivers — among them Denny Hamlin, Ryan Blaney, Ty Gibbs, Tyler Reddick, Christopher Bell, Chase Briscoe, Kyle Larson, Chase Elliott, Joey Logano, Chris Buescher, Carson Hocevar, William Byron, Daniel Suarez, Bubba Wallace, Austin Cindric and Shane Van Gisbergen — all eyeing the first of four chances to shape the title race.
