The Nashville Predators Foundation has bestowed a $6,000 Helper Grant upon Austin Peay State University’s men’s basketball team, seeding a new summer venture called Beyond the Court.
Beyond the Court: A Summer of Mentorship and Growth
The four‑week program, running from July 9 through July 31, pairs fifteen young men with mentors who guide them through leadership workshops, communication drills, emotional‑wellness sessions and future‑planning activities.
A collaborative effort between Austin Peay’s men’s basketball program and the Montgomery County Juvenile Court, the initiative leverages the university’s athletic community to foster a supportive environment for participants.
Voices of Leadership
Dr. Kristal McGreggor, who conceived the program, expressed that the effort creates a space where the young men feel seen, heard and supported, while Coach Corey Gipson highlighted the team’s commitment to serving and mentoring the participants.
The program’s climax will be a celebration on July 31, marking the culmination of a journey that aims to extend each participant’s sense of purpose beyond the basketball court and into the fabric of the community.
