Nathan Hale High School in West Allis, Wisconsin, is confronting a sudden reshuffling of its football coaching staff just weeks before the 2026 season is set to begin.
A confidential personnel investigation resulted in several coaches being placed on administrative leave, while two longtime assistants, including alumnus Ryan Teetz, chose to resign ahead of the first game.
Interim leadership and community reassurance
Cody Schumitsch, a 2015 graduate and current defensive coordinator, has been named interim head coach, bringing deep familiarity with the program and its playbook. Principal Matthew Lesar issued a letter to football families confirming the resignations and emphasizing that player safety remains uncompromised, with the school’s priority shifting to supporting student‑athletes through the transition.
The season opener is scheduled for August 20 against Kaukauna, and parent meetings have already been held to outline the road ahead as the team moves forward under interim guidance.
