A vibrant crowd gathered at Truist Park in Atlanta last week for the fifth edition of the Native American All‑Star Baseball Showcase, an event that blends athletic competition with cultural celebration.
A Celebration of Heritage and Talent
Among the 47 elite prospects was 17‑year‑old Bryce Barnoski, a senior from Tulsa, Oklahoma, who donned the colors of the Cherokee Nation while representing a coalition of 32 tribes spanning 19 U.S. states and Canada.
The Showcase Experience
The two‑day program featured an MLB‑style workout that put participants through drills in defensive work, hitting, fielding and throwing, before culminating in a game where Barnoski started as the catcher for the red squad, which secured a 10‑4 victory.
A Symbolic Gift
Barnoski received a custom Warstic baseball bat that bears the inscription “bonesaber” on one side and two etched lines on the other, a design he says carries deep personal meaning.
Looking ahead to his senior year and the transition to college, Barnoski emphasized the value of the exposure, saying the experience has strengthened his resolve to excel on the diamond and to mentor younger Native athletes.
His message to the next generation is clear: “Get involved, seize the opportunity, and let your heritage fuel your passion.” The showcase not only highlighted individual talent but also reinforced a growing platform for Native American voices in sport.
