Navajo Prep Girls Soccer clinches consolation championship at Rehoboth tournament

Coached by Katayan Ameri, the Lady Eagles overcome early-season struggles to secure their best finish under his leadership

The Navajo Prep girls soccer team captured a consolation championship at the Rehoboth tournament, capping a season that saw the Lady Eagles improve to a 2‑1‑2 record and claim fifth place with a 1‑0 win over the host squad.

A Turnaround Under Ameri

Founded in 2011 by Stacy Irwin, the program faced steep challenges when Katayan Ameri took over in 2024, inheriting a winless 0‑19 campaign and a 2‑17 season the year before. The early struggles made the subsequent turnaround all the more remarkable.

In the 2026 tournament, Ameri’s third year as head coach, the Lady Eagles posted a 2‑1‑2 slate that included a decisive 1‑0 victory over Rehoboth, securing fifth place and marking the highest finish of his tenure.

Assistant coach Winter Freeman played a pivotal role in the turnaround, leveraging her experience and collaborative approach to shape the team’s strategy and morale, while the collective effort of coaches, managers and players underscored the program’s resurgence.

The achievement not only highlights the progress of the Navajo Prep girls soccer program but also sets an optimistic tone for future seasons as the team builds on its improved performance.
