A Champion’s Call to Mentor
Danny Green, a three‑time NBA champion who spent 15 seasons with franchises such as the Cleveland Cavaliers, San Antonio Spurs and Los Angeles Lakers, is bringing his love of the game to El Paso this weekend.
The camp, scheduled for Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Parkland High School, will feature drills in ball handling, shooting, passing and defensive fundamentals, giving participants a chance to learn directly from a seasoned professional.
Beyond basketball, Green says he wants to use his platform to instill work ethic, discipline and confidence in kids who may not hear positive messages elsewhere, especially those facing limited opportunities in their neighborhoods.
Growing up in a community with few resources, Green recalls how mentorship shaped his own path, and he sees the camp as a way to pay it forward, offering guidance that extends far beyond the court.
Organizers hope the event will inspire young athletes to pursue excellence both in sports and in their future careers, showing that dedication and mentorship can open doors regardless of socioeconomic background.
