NC State Baseball Prepares for 2027 with New Coaching Staff and Transfers

Veteran recruiter Taylor Black returns as the Wolfpack adds three promising players ahead of the next season

North Carolina State’s baseball program is gearing up for the 2027 season with a series of strategic moves that could reshape its competitive outlook. The Wolfpack have announced a series of hires and player acquisitions that signal an aggressive push to return to the top of the ACC.

A familiar face returns to the dugout

Taylor Black, who previously served as an assistant coach for the Wolfpack from 2014 to 2017, is set to rejoin the staff after a four‑year stint on the Florida Gators’ roster. During his time in Gainesville he helped the team to two College World Series appearances and built a reputation as a recruiter with a keen eye for talent.

Before his college coaching career, Black spent four years in the Detroit Tigers’ scouting department, where he evaluated prospects across the Midwest and contributed to the club’s player development pipeline.

New faces in the clubhouse

The program also welcomed three transfers who are expected to add depth and versatility. Right‑handed pitchers Jesse Gutierrez and McCall Biemiller, along with catcher Andrew Raymond, have signed on for the 2027 campaign.

Gutierrez arrives after a modest 8‑12 record with a 4.67 ERA and a career strikeout rate of 19.6 percent across 57 appearances. A Tommy John surgery in 2025 limited his 2026 season, but his low‑90s fastball and distinctive delivery remain attractive assets.

Biemiller, meanwhile, is known for a high‑risk, high‑reward approach. His fastball sits in the low‑90s and his high school résumé includes multiple all‑state honors that have generated buzz among analysts.

Raymond brings a .300/.404/.455 career batting line, 13 doubles and seven home runs in 71 games, paired with a .993 fielding percentage in 2026 that underscores his reliability behind the plate.

Recognition for emerging talent

The 2026 season also produced accolades for two position players. Rett Johnson earned Freshman All‑American honors from Perfect Game and the NCBWA, while Luke Nixon was selected to the ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division I Atlantic All‑Region Second Team.

With a blend of experienced coaching, promising arms and a stronger lineup, the Wolfpack hope to translate these additions into a deeper run in the ACC tournament and perhaps a berth in the NCAA tournament.
