North Carolina State University’s baseball program revealed on Wednesday that it has officially signed three incoming players who will form part of the 2027 roster, a move that underscores the coaching staff’s intent to deepen both pitching and hitting capabilities.
A Pitching Boost
Both Jesse Gutierrez and Chet Lax arrive as left‑handed pitchers, each bringing a solid collegiate track record. Gutierrez, a San Jose State alum, posted a 2.36 ERA and recorded a career‑best nine strikeouts in a single game, highlighting his ability to dominate opposing lineups.
Lax, who comes from Wright State, compiled 156 strikeouts over his collegiate career while maintaining a 5.10 ERA. His experience across multiple seasons equips him with the composure needed for high‑pressure situations.
Catcher Ready to Make an Impact
Andrew Raymond, a catcher from Mississippi State, brings a potent bat to the lineup. In his lone season with the Bulldogs he hit .348, launched two home runs and drove in nine runs. His defensive contributions were recognized when he earned a spot on the All‑Atlantic 10 Rookie Team during his freshman year at George Mason.
Recruiting Context
Ranking services placed Raymond as the No. 500 overall prospect in the 2024 recruiting cycle and identified him as the No. 2 catcher in Maryland during his high school tenure. Such designations reflect the competitive nature of the recruiting landscape and the high expectations placed on incoming talent.
The additions of Gutierrez, Lax and Raymond illustrate NC State’s strategic focus on blending proven collegiate performance with future upside. As the program looks ahead to the 2027 season, the new roster pieces are poised to contribute immediately while also supporting the team’s long‑term development goals.
