A sudden shift in the weather forecast forced the Nebraska School Activities Association to reconsider the timing of its statewide soccer and baseball championships. With severe storms expected on Sunday, officials opted to move the soccer finals to Tuesday and Wednesday, while the baseball games slated for Monday will now begin an hour earlier and run on a rolling basis across three venues.
Soccer Finals Shift to Mid‑Week
Class B Girls will take the field at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, followed by the Class A Girls showdown at 8 p.m. the same evening. The next day, Wednesday, will host the Class B Boys championship at 4:30 p.m. and the Class A Boys title match at 8 p.m., giving teams a compact but orderly slate of contests.
Baseball teams will meet on Monday at three different locations, with a rolling schedule that spreads the 12 games throughout the day. Because of the weather concerns, each game will start an hour earlier than originally planned, allowing completion before the worst of the storm is expected to arrive.
The association emphasized that player safety and spectator comfort were the driving factors behind the changes, noting that the new timetable also eases the logistical burden on families and volunteers who would have faced difficult travel conditions in inclement weather.
Coaches and parents have largely welcomed the proactive approach, appreciating the clear communication from the NSAA and the effort to keep the events on schedule while prioritizing safety. The revised plan is expected to maintain the excitement of the championships while minimizing disruption.
