Projected Starting Lineup for 2026
Nebraska is gearing up for its season opener against the Ohio Bobcats, and the coaching staff has released a glimpse of the players who are expected to take the field first.
At quarterback, Anthony Colandrea is slated to lead the offense, bringing his dual‑threat skill set to the huddle. He will be supported by running back Isaiah Mozee, who is expected to carry the bulk of the rushing attack.
The receiving corps will feature Nyziah Hunter, Kwazi Gilmer and Jacory Barney Jr. as the projected starters, while Luke Lindenmeyer is the front‑runner for the tight end spot.
On the line, Elijah Pritchett and Gunner Gotulla are slated to start at tackle, with a competition brewing for the right‑tackle position between Tree Babalade and Gotulla. Paul Mubenga and Brendan Black will anchor the interior as guards, and Justin Evans is expected to man the center spot, a role that could earn him All‑B1G and All‑American recognition.
The defensive front will be anchored by Williams Nwaneri and Cameron Lenhardt as edge rushers, while Riley Van Poppel is set to start at nose tackle. Linebackers Owen Chambliss and Vincent Shavers are projected to start, with depth options including Dexter Foster, Dawson Merritt and Will Hawthorne rotating in.
In the secondary, Andrew Marshall and Victor Evans III are slated at cornerback, while Dwayne McDougle and Jamir Conn lead the safety group. Transfers and sophomores such as Donovan Jones will see time at nickel, adding experience to the backfield.
Nebraska’s new 4‑2‑5 defensive scheme is aimed at shoring up run defense and generating more quarterback pressure. The staff believes the blend of sophomore talent and experienced transfers will make the unit more aggressive.
The Huskers will open the season on September 5 in Lincoln, where they hope to translate the projected lineup into a strong start against the Bobcats.
