Nebraska's men's basketball program announced a significant addition to its coaching staff this week, naming Michael Chatman as its new Director of Strength and Conditioning.
A strategic addition to the Husker staff
Chatman arrives after a two‑year stint at LSU, where he served as head men’s basketball strength and conditioning coach, overseeing player development and performance strategies for the Tigers.
With fifteen years of Division I experience, Chatman brings a deep reservoir of knowledge in conditioning and athlete preparation, having worked at several programs before his recent role at LSU.
Coach Hoiberg’s endorsement
Nebraska head coach Fred Hoiberg praised Chatman’s track record, noting that his ability to ready players for the next level aligns with the program’s ambitions.
Hoiberg emphasized that the hire reflects a commitment to elevating the team’s physical development as the program looks to compete more aggressively in the Big Ten.
Chatman will replace Kurt Joseph, who recently moved to the NBA’s New Orleans Pelicans, where he was appointed Director of Strength & Conditioning earlier this month.
A look ahead
The move underscores Nebraska’s focus on integrating advanced performance science into its basketball operations, a trend that has become increasingly common across collegiate programs.
