A Top Defensive Back Chooses Lincoln
Bryce Williams, a four-star defensive back from Western High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, announced his commitment to the University of Nebraska, selecting the Huskers over traditional powerhouses such as Florida, Oklahoma and Clemson. The decision marks a significant recruiting win for Nebraska, which has been building momentum in the 2027 class.
Williams had originally pledged to Florida State but decommitted earlier in 2025, opening the door for a final decision that heavily weighed the coaching staff. Defensive backs coach Addison Williams played a pivotal role, guiding the recruit through a series of visits that culminated in a campus trip to Lincoln where the defensive scheme and player development stood out.
Beyond the on-field factors, Williams shares a unique bond with Nebraska quarterback commit Trae Taylor. The two have faced each other and teamed up in high school competition, creating a personal connection that reinforced the recruit's confidence in the program.
The commitment elevates Nebraska's 2027 recruiting class to 13 total pledges, including six four-star prospects. The class now features standout names such as Tory Pittman III and Corey Hadley Jr., bolstering a secondary that already includes veterans Andrew Marshall and Donovan Jones.
Nebraska's defensive unit finished the 2025 regular season ranked third nationally against the pass, a statistic that likely resonated with Williams as he evaluated the program's trajectory. The addition of his talent is expected to further tighten the secondary and maintain the Huskers' upward momentum.
