Neff Giwa arrived in Columbia as a 20‑year‑old rookie on the offensive line, a position he had never played before stepping onto the gridiron. Born in Cashel, Ireland, and raised with a strong Nigerian heritage, Giwa spent his early years mastering rugby, a sport that honed his physicality and mental toughness.
His path to the Gamecocks began through Brandon Collier’s international recruiting network, which specializes in locating talent abroad. After a visit to South Carolina in March, Giwa signed with the program just six days later and moved to the United States in May, ready to embark on a new football journey.

The Gamecocks embraced Giwa almost immediately, describing his integration as feeling like joining a family. The supportive environment helped him overcome the initial overwhelm of stepping into a completely new sport at the collegiate level.

Giwa’s primary responsibility will be safeguarding quarterback LaNorris Sellers, who endured heavy pressure in the previous season. The offensive line room is crowded, with twenty players competing for only five starting spots, making every practice rep crucial for Giwa to prove his worth.
