A quiet evening on the popular 606 Trail in Logan Square turned violent when a woman jogging was suddenly assaulted by a man who later identified himself as Ricardo Colon.
According to police reports, Colon choked the victim, grabbed her breasts and rubbed her genital area over her clothing. The woman fought back, screamed for help in both English and Spanish, and managed to attract the attention of several nearby residents.
Community Intervention
Good Samaritans chased Colon down the trail, tackled him to the ground and held him until Chicago police arrived. Their quick actions prevented the suspect from fleeing and ensured that he could be taken into custody without further harm to the victim.
Colon was arrested on the spot and later charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse and attempted aggravated criminal sexual assault. He was taken to a hospital for evaluation before being booked at the Cook County Jail.
During questioning, Colon initially claimed he and the victim had merely bumped into each other, but he later admitted to the assault. He also told officers that he experiences urges to touch women's buttocks and questioned why women display such behavior if they do not intend to consent.
The victim sustained bruises and swelling and was treated at a local medical facility before being released. Authorities praised the bravery of the neighbors who intervened, emphasizing that community vigilance can make a critical difference in emergency situations.
