On the morning of June 28, 2026, a 32‑year‑old woman was jogging along the 606 Trail in Chicago’s North Lawndale neighborhood when her husband, who had been running ahead, left her momentarily alone on the path.
As she continued, 56‑year‑old Ricardo Colon emerged from behind, seized her by the neck and forced her into a chokehold, later adding a grip on her breasts as he attempted to sexually assault her.
The victim struggled, managed to rise, and fled to the opposite side of the trail, but Colon pursued her again, prompting her to scream for help.
Her cries attracted two neighbors who lived across the trail; one called 911 while another retrieved an aluminum baseball bat from his garage.
Armed with the bat, the neighbor chased Colon down the street; after a brief pursuit the suspect stumbled, fell and was detained by the neighbor and another bystander until Chicago police arrived.
Both the victim and Colon were taken to hospitals; the woman was listed in fair condition with bruising and abrasions, while Colon was reported in good condition with minor injuries.
Colon now faces two felony counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse causing bodily harm and appeared in court on June 30 for a detention hearing.
