Nelson Boachie‑Yiadom, a former standout for both Hofstra and Davidson, has rejoined the university as an assistant coach, bringing a blend of playing experience, international perspective and academic insight to the program.
During his playing days he captained the Pride in the 2022‑23 season, helping the team capture the Colonial Athletic Association regular‑season title with a 25‑10 record, while also ranking third nationally in blocked shots at 1.7 per game.
After completing his collegiate career, Boachie‑Yiadom spent three seasons at Asheville School in North Carolina, where he rose from junior varsity head coach to varsity associate head coach, turning a 9‑15 squad into a 15‑8 contender and sharpening his skills in scouting, film analysis and player development.
His coaching stint was matched by academic achievement; he earned a Master of Arts in Sustainability from Hofstra in 2023 and a Bachelor of Arts in History from Davidson in 2022, underscoring a commitment to leadership beyond the hardwood.
A New Chapter for Hofstra Basketball
Now back on Long Island, Boachie‑Yiadom will work alongside head coach Speedy Claxton, whose own playing pedigree includes a stint with the New York Knicks and a reputation for player development. The collaboration is expected to deepen the Pride’s defensive identity and inject a global outlook into recruiting.
The return of Boachie‑Yiadom is more than a personnel move; it signals a strategic investment in a coach who has already proven he can elevate programs, both on the court and in the classroom.
Fans can look forward to seeing how his defensive schemes and international connections will shape the next chapter of Hofstra basketball, as the university aims to build on its recent successes and pursue new heights in the competitive landscape of college sports.
