A Season to Remember

The Virginia High School League unveiled its 2026 Class 2 All‑State Girls Soccer Team, recognizing the players who defined a remarkable year for high school soccer across the Commonwealth.

At the heart of the announcement is Clara Moldenhauer of Nelson County, who was named Player of the Year after guiding her squad to its first state championship in program history.

Moldenhauer concluded the season with 23 goals and 25 assists, scoring two goals in a 3‑0 semifinal victory over Clarke County. Over her high school career she amassed 78 goals and 61 assists, and she has committed to continue her career at Western Colorado University.

Coach Bryan Ferren earned Coach of the Year honors, having steered Nelson County to a flawless 23‑0 record and the Class 2 state title after eight years that transformed the program into a regional contender.

The all‑state selections also reflected the depth of talent in the area, with four players from Nelson County joined by honorees from Glenvar and Chatham, including first‑team members Gabby Barba, Sawyer Wilson, Ryan Jones and Maddie Frackelton, as well as second‑team pick Annie George and first‑team representative Leighton Johnston from Chatham.

Beyond the individual accolades, the season produced district and regional championships, underscoring the rise of a program that now stands among the state’s elite.
