Netflix has confirmed that it is developing a series based on Hannah Grace's bestselling novel Icebreaker, a story that has spent more than 70 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list and been translated into 24 languages.
The Source Material
The narrative centers on Anastasia Allen, a dedicated figure skater, and Nate Hawkins, a talented hockey player, whose ambitions on the ice intersect with a growing romantic tension.
Amanda Lasher, who earned acclaim for her work on Gossip Girl and the HBO series Togetherness, will serve as showrunner and head writer, bringing her experience with youthful drama to the project.
Jade Bartlett, whose résumé includes Road House, Miller’s Girl and a stint on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, will co‑write the pilot, setting the tone for the series.
Behind the Camera
The series will be executive produced by Alex Cooper, Matt Kaplan and Mina Lefevre under the Unwell Productions banner, a collaboration that has delivered several successful originals for the platform.
While official casting has not been announced, industry observers expect the adaptation to emphasize both the competitive spirit of sport and the tender moments of first love, a formula that has resonated with younger demographics.
The project is slated to appear in Netflix’s original lineup later this year, though a precise release window has yet to be revealed.
