Netflix has announced a new series adaptation that pulls directly from Hannah Grace’s Maple Hills hockey romance novels, a genre that has been surging in popularity across streaming platforms.
The show, titled Icebreaker, centers on Anastasia Allen, a dedicated figure skater, and Nate Hawkins, the charismatic captain of a college hockey team, whose lives intersect when a facilities mishap forces them to share a single rink.
A Fresh Take on Icebound Romance
Amanda Lasher, who will serve as showrunner, described the project as a passion venture, while writer Jade Bartlett has already completed the pilot and is collaborating with Lasher on the remaining episodes. Alex Cooper, also attached as a producer, brings his own production expertise to the series under the Unwell Productions banner.
The creative team’s synergy was highlighted in Netflix’s recent X post, where the platform paired the synopsis with a teaser image and a message that generated immediate buzz among fans of the genre.
With the combined talents of Lasher, Bartlett and Cooper, Icebreaker promises to blend the intensity of on‑ice competition with the tender moments of an unexpected partnership, setting the stage for a fresh take on romance that could redefine the sport‑driven narrative on screen.
