The team’s difficulties have been most evident in recruiting, where they have consistently ranked near the bottom of FBS programs, limiting the talent pool available to compete at the highest level.
A $28 Million Leap
Recognizing the need for a turnaround, the university has embarked on an ambitious infrastructure project, including a $28 million fieldhouse that will house an indoor practice facility and a suite of recreational spaces.
Funded through a combination of student fees and private donations, the project was championed by students and backed by university leadership, making it one of only a dozen FBS schools to finally acquire an indoor practice venue.
The new facility will be equipped with cutting‑edge technology, such as autonomous cameras that capture practice footage, giving coaches and players immediate visual feedback.
Officials hope the upgrades will not only attract higher‑rated recruits but also provide a competitive edge in a landscape reshaped by name, image and likeness deals and revenue‑sharing models that have widened the gap between Group of Five and Power Five programs.
