Construction crews have started work on a new artificial turf field at Mitch Grissom Field in Saltillo, Mississippi, marking a major upgrade for the town’s athletic facilities.
The project removes the old natural grass surface that had become prone to water pooling and uneven terrain, especially at one end of the field where puddles frequently formed after rain.
Athletics Director Jonathan Chaney explained that the previous field suffered from crowning in its center, a condition that can affect player safety and performance, prompting the decision to switch to a more resilient synthetic material.
Designed to endure heavy use throughout the year, the new surface aims to eliminate the seasonal limitations of natural grass and provide a consistent playing environment for football and other sports.
