The New Kent community has come together to support Kris Leeper, a high school basketball player who was seriously injured in a car crash last week.
The Crash on Route 60
According to reports, Leeper veered off Route 60 near the Italian Brothers restaurant and collided with multiple trees. No other vehicles were involved, and the impact left him with extensive injuries that required immediate medical attention.
Medical Response and Surgery
He was airlifted to a nearby hospital where he underwent several operations. Surgeons have inserted plates and screws in one hip and placed rods in his left leg to stabilize the broken bones. In addition to the fractures, Leeper suffered deep lacerations to an arm, a concussion and a possible torn ACL.
A Coach’s Reflection
Garrett Ross, the team’s head coach, shared a statement with Leeper’s family, noting that the player credited seatbelts with saving his life. The comment underscores the severity of the crash and the fortunate outcome given the circumstances.
