Committee reshuffle ahead of 2026‑27 season
The NCAA announced this week that three seasoned administrators — Sara Elcano, Annie Fiorvanti and Sherika Montgomery — have been selected to join the Division I Women’s Basketball Committee, each receiving a five‑year appointment that kicks in on September 1.
Jeff Konya, who serves as director of athletics at San Jose State, will continue in his post through August 31, 2028 after the board approved a two‑year extension of his tenure.
Montgomery, the commissioner of the Big South Conference and the first representative from that league to sit on the committee, said she feels honored to contribute during what she described as a transformative period for women’s basketball, citing the sport’s growing visibility and investment.
Lynn Holzman, the NCAA’s vice president of women’s basketball, praised the newcomers, noting that their combined experience across multiple conferences and previous service on NCAA rules and tournament panels will strengthen the committee’s oversight.
The committee for the 2026‑27 cycle will also be led by chair Liz Darger, while eight additional administrators from institutions such as Oregon State, UConn, Nebraska and Vanderbilt round out the roster, bringing a mix of public‑school and private‑school perspectives.
Together, the group is expected to guide policy decisions, tournament selection processes and rule considerations as the sport continues its upward trajectory, with Montgomery emphasizing the importance of collaborative leadership in sustaining momentum.
