A Community Goal Takes Shape
Two brand‑new soccer pitches have officially opened in South Boston, marking the latest step in a community‑focused investment that coincides with the approaching World Cup. The fields are located on an underutilized parking lot at the Boston Housing Authority’s West Broadway community, turning a neglected space into a vibrant sports venue.
The Mini Pitch installations are a permanent addition to the neighborhood and are designed to serve roughly 500 local children. Installed by Street Soccer USA, the fields are part of a broader commitment to place public soccer facilities in each American host city of the World Cup, offering free programming that is exclusively for the local community.
Lawrence Cann, a senior figure at Street Soccer USA, emphasized that the programs will remain free and accessible only to residents of the area, ensuring that the investment directly benefits the neighborhood.
Brittney Gordon, a longtime resident, attended the opening with her children and said she hopes the new fields will provide a structured activity that keeps kids engaged in a positive environment.
Twelve‑year‑old Kemily was among the first to use the fields, praising their quality and expressing excitement about having a dedicated place to play.
