Baseball’s Offensive Onslaught
The Newton baseball team opened its non‑conference schedule with a 10‑0 victory over Clarke, a performance that saw runs scored in every inning and a barrage of hits that left the opposition scrambling.
Four doubles punctuated the offense, while the squad collected fourteen hits compared to Clarke’s single, underscoring the Cardinals’ firepower.
Senior Lane Rozendaal contributed three hits in four at‑bats, including a double, while Gabe Otto added two hits, drove in two runs and scored three times, also throwing five innings on the mound.
Otto’s outing on the hill was a complete game, cementing his role as a dual‑threat presence for Newton.
Softball’s Power Surge
The softball side of the program also shined, posting a 5‑0 shutout of the Indians that improved their record to 15‑9. Senior Ava Williams provided the long ball, driving in two runs with a solo homer.
Junior Leileigh Hammons was nearly perfect at the plate, going three‑for‑three with two singles and a double, and she capped the effort with a shut‑out pitching performance.

Both squads now turn their attention to a doubleheader against Dallas Center‑Grimes, with the baseball game slated to start at 5 p.m. and the softball contest at 5:30 p.m.
