The Newtown Community Center is set to add a new basketball court to its Fairfield Hills campus, with construction scheduled for completion in June 2026. The expansion forms part of a broader effort to enrich the recreational offerings available to local families.
Funding the Future of Play
The project is made possible by a $100,000 donation from philanthropist Lindell Hertberg. His contribution will cover the court’s construction and equip it for a variety of community activities.
Once open, the court will host childcare sessions, seasonal camps, and after‑school programs, while also providing designated open‑play times that conclude at dusk. This schedule aims to balance structured activities with flexible recreation.
Design That Honors History
The court’s design integrates seamlessly with the historic Fairfield Hills landscape, preserving the site’s character while introducing modern amenities. The initiative aligns with the center’s goal of creating a vibrant, community‑centered space that improves the quality of life for residents and visitors alike.
