A Fresh Structure for the 2027 All‑Star Weekend
The National Hockey League, in partnership with the NHL Players’ Association, unveiled the schedule and format for the 2027 Honda NHL All‑Star Game and All‑Star Skills, set to take place at UBS Arena on Long Island. The weekend will be broadcast on ESPN, ABC and Sportsnet, bringing the festivities to a wide North American audience.
Five teams will compete in a round‑robin tournament, each composed of eleven players — nine skaters and two goaltenders. The squads will represent Canada, Finland, Sweden, the United States and a World team, giving fans a chance to see top talent from across the globe.
Fan Vote and Player Selection
The NHL and NHLPA will open a fan vote that allows supporters to select eight players from each roster, while the remaining three spots on each team will be filled by league and players’ association officials. This hybrid approach aims to balance popular input with expert judgment.
Round‑Robin Play and the Final
During the weekend, each team will contest four five‑minute games in the round‑robin stage. The top two teams based on standings will advance to a ten‑minute championship final, where the winning side will claim a $2 million (USD) prize.
All‑Star Skills Competition
The Skills event will showcase ten young stars aged 25 or younger, who will battle in classic events such as Fastest Skater, Hardest Shot and Accuracy Shooting. The two best performers from the shooting segment will then face off in an Obstacle Course Finale, adding a dramatic climax to the showcase.
The champion of the Skills competition will receive a $1 million (USD) award, underscoring the league’s commitment to rewarding emerging talent.
Broadcast Schedule
Fans in the United States can watch the Skills portion on ESPN and the final game on ABC, while Canadian viewers will tune in via Sportsnet. The Skills broadcast is slated for February 5, with the game following on February 6, marking the second time the New York Islanders have hosted the All‑Star festivities.
The upcoming All‑Star Weekend promises a blend of competitive spirit, fan engagement and high‑profile exposure for the sport, as the league looks to celebrate its past while spotlighting the next generation of stars.
