Heidi Browning has been appointed senior executive vice president and chief digital officer of the National Hockey League, marking the league’s first dedicated leadership role focused on its digital ecosystem.
Browning comes to the role after nearly ten years as the NHL’s chief marketing officer, where she helped shape the league’s brand strategy and fan‑engagement initiatives. Digital strategy takes center stage
The reshuffle also sees Sean Eggert elevated to senior executive vice president and chief marketing officer, while Julie Y. Yufe joins the organization as executive vice president and managing director of international. Yufe’s remit will be to drive the league’s expansion into new markets and to coordinate global partnership efforts.
These appointments follow a period of record‑setting performance for the NHL, with unprecedented revenue, attendance numbers and television ratings reported across the sport. Executives say that a unified digital strategy is essential to sustain this momentum and to capitalize on emerging opportunities in fan interaction.
Browning’s appointment reflects a broader industry shift toward treating digital infrastructure as a core competitive advantage. By centralising website management, app development and fan‑engagement tools under a single leadership umbrella, the league hopes to streamline innovation and accelerate the rollout of new features.
The integration is expected to deepen engagement, broaden the audience base and create new revenue streams through personalized content and immersive experiences.
