The National Hockey League (NHL) and the National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA) have unveiled a sweeping expansion of NHL STREET, a grassroots initiative that delivers street hockey experiences to children and families in communities across North America.
Backed by the NHL/NHLPA Industry Growth Fund, the program seeks to remove financial and accessibility hurdles that have traditionally limited participation in hockey, opening the door to a more inclusive version of the sport.
Grassroots Growth
Central to the effort are Club‑led programming, school‑based play sessions, community partnerships and a calendar of marquee events that bring the excitement of live hockey to new audiences.
Two headline activations will anchor the rollout: an NHL STREET activation at the 2026 NHL Draft in Buffalo, New York, and the NHL STREET Harbour Fest in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Community Voices
Jeff Scott, NHL Group Vice President of Community Development and Industry Growth, said the league is meeting kids where they are, offering fun, welcoming ways to learn the game and build confidence on the ice.
The initiative also relies on collaborations with partners such as RCX Sports, Jersey Mike’s and BODYARMOR Sports Drink, each bringing resources and visibility to the effort.
Looking Ahead
By linking NHL Clubs, schools, national youth organizations and governing bodies, NHL STREET creates sustainable pathways that let youngsters experience hockey beyond the rink. The program promises to deepen engagement, expand geographic reach and cement hockey’s place as a sport for all.
