Seton Hill University announced this week that Nick Volchock will lead the Griffins' women's basketball team, stepping into the role after Maeve Gallagher's three‑year tenure that produced a 60‑31 record and multiple postseason appearances.
Volchock, a Yonkers native who played professionally in Germany and Italy before turning to coaching, brings a blend of Division I experience and overseas perspective to the position.
A Coach With a Proven Turnaround
His coaching résumé includes five seasons as an assistant at Marist and Iona, a stint as owner and head coach of the Empire State Basketball Club, and a celebrated turnaround at Masters School that transformed a five‑win team into a state champion.
At Rockland Community College he set a program record with 111 three‑pointers and earned hall‑of‑fame honors, while his professional playing career saw him compete for the Westchester Phantoms and the Portland Chinooks.
In his acceptance remarks Volchock highlighted the university’s community values and its commitment to developing student‑athletes both on and off the court.
Gallagher’s era featured two NCAA tournament bids and three consecutive PSAC playoff berths, culminating in a 2022‑23 semifinal run that marked the program’s first appearance in the tournament’s later stages.
The Griffins’ recent push to the PSAC semifinals in 2022‑23 underscored the program’s upward trajectory, a momentum Volchock hopes to sustain as he introduces his own philosophy and recruiting strategies.
