Florida State University announced a scholarship offer for Nijal Thigpen, a 6‑foot‑5, 280‑pound offensive tackle from Miramar High School in Florida. The announcement comes as the Seminoles intensify their pursuit of top‑tier linemen for the 2028 recruiting cycle, a group that could reshape the program’s front line.
Thigpen, currently ranked No. 521 nationally and No. 45 among offensive tackles by the 247Sports composite, holds roughly 30 scholarship offers from programs such as Miami, Florida, Nebraska, Penn State, Virginia Tech and Auburn. His decision timeline remains fluid, but he has already locked in two game‑day visits that will test the atmosphere at key ACC matchups.
Visits and Previous Engagement
The first visit is scheduled for September 7, when Florida State opens its season against SMU. A second trip will take place on October 17 for the rivalry game versus Miami. Both trips mark Thigpen’s second appearance on campus, following an earlier Junior Day event in January that gave him a taste of the university’s culture.
Coach Herb Hand, who oversees the offensive line, has been vocal about his enthusiasm for Thigpen’s potential fit within the Seminoles’ scheme. Hand’s personal outreach has helped the recruit feel welcomed, a factor that Thigpen says influences his evaluation of each program.
During his visits, Thigpen plans to observe the team’s preparation routines and game‑day production, seeking clues about how he might contribute to a future Seminoles resurgence. He has expressed a desire to help Florida State secure a marquee victory and possibly ascend to the top of his list of prospective schools.
