Minnesota’s men’s basketball program announced that head coach Niko Medved will receive a one‑year contract extension, a move that still requires approval from the university’s Board of Regents.
The extension would keep Medved at the helm through the 2031‑32 season and attach a $200,000 salary increase, pushing his total compensation to $3.2 million for the upcoming term.
Although his inaugural Gophers squad finished 15‑18 overall and 8‑12 in Big Ten play, the team showed resilience by battling through a wave of injuries and still earned a spot in the College Basketball Crown tournament in Las Vegas.
The upcoming season offers a chance to build on that experience, with the coaching staff hoping the added stability and resources will translate into a more competitive roster.
If the Board of Regents gives its blessing, the extension will lock in Medved’s leadership through the next decade, providing continuity as the program seeks to climb the Big Ten rankings.
