Nikola Dzepina, a forward for the Washington Huskies, has begun to carve out a noticeable presence on the senior roster of Team Serbia as the Eurobasket U20 tournament approaches.
During a recent exhibition against Turkey, he delivered a 19‑point, 11‑rebound double‑double, complemented by three assists and two blocks, underscoring his offensive versatility and defensive impact.
A Double‑Double That Stood Out
The stat line not only highlighted his scoring and rebounding prowess but also demonstrated his ability to contribute across the board in a short span of minutes.
Dzepina’s arrival in Seattle came after center Mady Traore suffered a preseason foot injury, opening a pathway for the Serbian prospect to join the Huskies in mid‑December.
Coach Danny Sprinkle, who has been guiding the Huskies through a transitional period, praised the young forward’s progress, emphasizing that the player’s work ethic and skill set are already translating into tangible results on the court.
Despite limited playing time — averaging just 11.1 minutes per game over 14 appearances — Dzepina has managed to post 2.6 points and 1.3 rebounds per game, figures that belie the growing confidence the coaching staff is placing in him.
Looking Ahead
With the fall season on the horizon, the coaching staff expects Dzepina to assume a significantly larger role, both in terms of minutes and responsibility. His performance against Turkey serves as a clear indicator that the Serbian forward could become a pivotal piece for both club and national teams.
