Huskies Set for 2027 Season Opener
Northern Illinois University announced that its football program will begin the 2027 campaign with a home game against the University of South Florida at Huskie Stadium on August 28, 2027.
The matchup represents the fifth occasion the two schools have met on the gridiron, with their most recent encounter dating back to 2016. NIU previously secured a 20‑17 victory over the Bulls on August 30, 2001, a game that remains the only win in the series to date.
A Rivalry Renewed
Historically, the combined record between Northern Illinois and South Florida stands at one win and three losses in favor of the Bulls. The 2010 International Bowl saw the Huskies fall to South Florida, adding a notable chapter to the series.
Originally slated for September 25, 2027, the contest was moved to an earlier date to accommodate conference scheduling, underscoring the dynamic nature of college football calendars.
Both programs will use the game as an early‑season benchmark, with the Huskies aiming to leverage home‑field advantage and the Bulls looking to extend their historical edge.
