The opening goal arrived in the 11th minute when Diego Hoenderkamp delivered a precise pass to Carlos Merce, who calmly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper to put the Norse ahead.
NKU carried that early momentum into the first half, outshooting their opponents 11‑2 and earning five corner kicks while Southern Indiana failed to register a single shot.
A Second Goal and a Shift in Momentum
The second half began with Silas Borgan extending the lead to 2‑0, a strike that seemed to cement control for the Norse as they continued to press forward.
However, defensive lapses began to surface, and Southern Indiana capitalized on a late surge, pulling one back in the 67th minute before adding a final equalizer that forced the match to end level.
Goalkeeper Caleb Pearson made three crucial saves in the second half, keeping the Norse within striking distance despite the growing pressure.
