NMU Hockey Marks 50 Years with Community Celebration
Northern Michigan University’s hockey program is gearing up to honor a half‑century of competition and community impact. From July 30 through August 1, 2026, the Wildcats will host a series of events that invite alumni, students and local fans to celebrate the milestone.
The festivities kick off on July 30 at Blackrocks Brewery, where the team will gather for a kickoff celebration that sets the tone for the weekend. The following day, July 31, the Berry Events Center will open its doors for an open house, allowing visitors to explore the historic venue and learn about the program’s legacy.
Event Highlights
Later on July 31, Ore Dock Brewing will host a welcome‑back reception, giving current players a chance to reconnect with former teammates and supporters. All of these gatherings are free and open to the public, reinforcing the university’s commitment to community engagement.
The celebration culminates on August 1 with a charity golf outing at the NMU Golf Course. Teams can participate for $240 each, with all proceeds directed toward sustaining the hockey program’s future initiatives.
Assistant coach Phil Fox, a Wildcat alumnus who captained the team in 2011, will be available over the weekend to answer questions about the events. Interested parties can reach him at pfox@nmu.edu.
