Wildcats Close Preseason with Convincing Victory
The NMU women's soccer team wrapped up its preseason slate on Monday, August 24, defeating UW‑Stevens Point 3‑1 at the university's soccer field. Isabella Lorens opened the scoring with a powerful header, and Emma Kastamo contributed two goals, including a late strike that sealed the win.
Over the previous six days the Wildcats faced three varied opponents — Concordia University‑Wisconsin, Milwaukee School of Engineering and the Pointers — using the matches to test tactics and build chemistry.
Coach Erin Egolf Highlights Progress
Head coach Erin Egolf praised the squad's hard work, noting the condensed schedule created physical strain but also accelerated cohesion. She emphasized the team's depth, commitment and the positive signs of improvement she sees as the regular season approaches.
Team captain Madalyn Nissen described the preseason as a blend of seasoned leadership and eager freshmen, stressing that every player pushed each other to raise the standard of play.
Looking Ahead to Home Matchups
The Wildcats are set to host St. Cloud State on Friday, August 28, and Minnesota Duluth on Sunday, August 30, at their home field. Both games will serve as the final tune‑ups before conference competition begins.
With training sessions still ongoing two weeks before the season opener, players have been working double‑days, sharpening fitness and tactical awareness. The coaching staff remains confident that the early grind will translate into a strong start.
