A Coaching Transition at Beechwood
Jay Volker announced his resignation as head coach of Beechwood’s football program, bringing to a close a three‑year stretch that delivered a 2024 Class 2A state title and a 37‑5 overall record. In a May 17 email he outlined his intention to step down while accepting a teaching position in Ohio, a move that surprised many within the school community.
The administration confirmed his departure and the hiring of Noel Rash two days later, framing the change as a planned transition after Volker’s exit was officially recorded.
Rash, a veteran with 200 career wins and eight state championships over 17 seasons, returns to the sidelines after serving as a special assistant at Holmes High School and Cincinnati St. Xavier. His most recent head‑coaching stint at Conner High School ended with a 4‑7 record in 2025 following the sudden death of coach David Trosper.
Beechwood Schools has placed Volker in the same category as other state‑champion coaches, acknowledging his contributions to the program’s recent success. Athletic director Bernie Barre praised the hand‑off, saying Rash’s deep ties to the region should keep the Tigers competitive.
With several key players set to return, the team is viewed as well‑positioned for the upcoming season. The coaching staff, which includes assistants Mike Yeagle, Emmett Queen, Tyler Fryman and Nathan Pabst, will work alongside Rash to build on the foundation laid by Volker.
Looking Ahead
The coming months will test how quickly the new staff can integrate their strategies, but early indications suggest the Tigers have the talent and momentum to contend again in 2026.
