Nordic Nations Rebuke FIFA President Gianni Infantino
Six national football associations from Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Iceland and the Faroe Islands have jointly announced that they no longer have confidence in FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
In a coordinated statement they voiced deep concern over the current governance and decision‑making practices at the highest level of world football, arguing that the leadership’s recent moves risk undermining the sport’s integrity.
Calls for Safeguards Against Private Ownership
The associations said they fully support UEFA’s proposed measures and are demanding binding guarantees that FIFA’s governance and competition frameworks cannot be opened to private ownership, ensuring that the organization remains insulated from commercial exploitation.
President Infantino has proposed selling future World Cup revenue streams to private investors, a plan that has sparked backlash from UEFA, the Asian Football Confederation and the Confederation of African Football, and has intensified calls for his resignation.
Demand for Independent Review
The Nordic bodies have thrown their weight behind calls for an independent external investigation into the FIFA Forward Enterprise proposal, seeking a transparent audit of the organization’s financial and structural decisions.
They insist that a comprehensive review of FIFA’s governance framework is essential to uphold the independence, checks and balances, transparency and accountability that were promised in the 2016 reform program.
