North Central Ohio Football Coaches Association Spring Combine Draws Record Turnout

Over 130 high school athletes from 25 schools test their mettle in front of college recruiters at Shelby’s Whippet Athletic Complex

A Gathering of Talent and Coaches

The North Central Ohio Football Coaches Association hosted its second annual spring combine at Shelby’s Whippet Athletic Complex, drawing more than 130 athletes from 25 high schools across the region.

A dozen college coaches, representing programs from Division I through Division III, were on hand to evaluate the prospects, marking a noticeable increase in both college representation and participant numbers compared with the previous year.

Drills and Position‑Specific Workouts

Athletes first completed a battery of standard combine drills before splitting into position groups for tailored workouts that let them showcase technique and athleticism in their respective roles.

Standout Performances on the Field

Hillsdale quarterback Kael Lewis, a rising senior who led his team to the last two Division VII state championship games, posted the day’s fastest 40‑yard dash with a 4.37‑second run, catching the eye of recruiters.

Earlier in the day Lewis also received an offer from Division II Ashland University, underscoring the event’s role as a conduit for scholarship opportunities.

Other Notable Quarterbacks

Ontario’s Trey Remy and Clear Fork’s Marcus Hoeflich both impressed during passing drills, connecting with receivers in drills that highlighted their arm strength and accuracy.

Remy, a rising junior, said the summer circuit will be crucial for shaping his recruiting trajectory, while Hoeflich’s performance added to the growing buzz around his potential.

Community Support and Future Prospects

Lexington coach Andrew Saris and other local mentors volunteered their time to guide athletes through position‑specific drills, reflecting a collective effort to nurture the next generation of talent.

The combine not only provided a platform for individual exposure but also reinforced the collaborative spirit among high school coaches, college scouts, and community leaders eager to elevate regional football.
