A Comeback for the Ages
The North Hamilton Hibos baseball squad captured the New Jersey District 2 American Legion Tournament title on Sunday, edging out Montgomery Superior Red 7-5 in a game that swung dramatically in the fifth inning. After trailing 4-1, the Hibos rallied with a flurry of hits that turned the tide and forced a decisive comeback.
The victory marks the team's first appearance in the New Jersey American Legion Final Four since the organization rebranded from North Trenton Post 458 to the North Hamilton Hibos, a transition that has reinvigorated the local baseball community.
Key Performers Step Up
Reliever Brandon Rigas earned the win with a solid outing on the mound, while utility player Luca Gaglione delivered the clutch hits that sparked the rally. Their contributions were complemented by a host of teammates, including Austin Wright, J.P. Santos, Nolan Bruno, Joey Fava, Jake Zotollo, Alex "Danny" Alonzo, Chris Alonzo, Aidan Lipman, Eric Struble, Ethan Yerow, Kieran Callahan and C.J. Banos, who all saw action in the championship game.
A Date with Destiny
The Hibos will now travel to Union, New Jersey, to meet District 1 champion Whitehouse at 4 p.m. Monday at Jim Hynes Stadium, which sits on the campus of Kean University. The matchup will be played on the same field where the tournament final was held, adding a layer of familiarity for the squad.
Kean University, a longtime partner of the tournament, will host the Final Four games, continuing a tradition that began at Bob DeMeo Field in Veterans Park earlier in the day when Montgomery Superior Red posted an 11‑run inning, underscoring the offensive firepower on display.
