North Haven Spring Brawl Raises Funds for Joey Camera

High school football scrimmage supports a sixth‑grader’s cancer battle

A Community Game with a Purpose

The 22nd Annual North Haven football Spring Brawl is set to take place at Vanacore Field on the campus of North Haven High School, bringing together families, classmates and local supporters for a cause that hits close to home.

At the heart of the event is Joey Camera, a sixth‑grader who is currently battling Hodgkin lymphoma. All money raised will be directed to his family, with the goal of easing the financial strain that accompanies his treatment.

The scrimmage features underclassmen competing in a modified, fast‑paced format, while outgoing seniors serve as volunteer coaches, passing on both strategy and spirit.

Since its inception in 2011, the Spring Brawl has evolved into a staple charity drive for the town, integrating a three‑day football clinic that draws participants from across the region.

Last year’s edition generated $31,000 for North Haven High math teacher Jennifer Nolan and her family, illustrating the tangible impact of community contributions.

Coach Anthony Sagnella, who oversees the event, has noted that this year’s donation tally is already outpacing expectations, reflecting a growing willingness among residents to support one another.

Donors can send contributions via check or through a Venmo account linked to North Haven Youth Football, the organization that coordinates the game and ensures that every dollar reaches the Camera family.
