A New Era for the Cavaliers
North Rowan High School’s football program enters the 2026 season with momentum after a 7‑5 finish in 2025 and a share of the Yadkin Valley Conference title. Head coach Josh Sophia, who posted an 11‑3 record in his debut year, returns with a roster that blends proven playmakers and fresh talent.
Quarterback Mike Alford will again anchor the offense after throwing for 2,865 yards and 28 touchdowns last year, while receiver Dyaon Norman‑Jackson, who amassed over 1,000 receiving yards, is expected to remain a primary target. The team also welcomes transfer Kenny Harper, who brings experience from Albemarle, and sophomore running back Brandon Clodfelter, who is slated to assume a larger role.
After a rocky 0‑3 start, the Cavaliers rallied to win six of their next seven games, culminating in a shared conference championship. Defensive standouts such as safety Nick Morrow and linebacker Mike Alford contributed heavily, combining for 11 tackles for loss, and the unit aims to cut the three‑touchdown average from the previous season.
The schedule features a tough non‑conference slate, including matchups against West Rowan and Lake Norman Charter, as well as a marquee appearance in the Rowan County Jamboree. Early scrimmages against Atkins will give the team a chance to fine‑tune before the season opener.
Coach Sophia emphasized the importance of continuity and community support, noting that the team will open the season with a scrimmage against Atkins and then travel to the Jamboree. With a blend of returning stars and new additions, the Cavaliers are poised to contend for another conference title.
