Northeastern University’s men’s ice hockey program is gearing up for a significant infusion of talent. After a disappointing postseason exit, the team will welcome seven new freshmen who bring a blend of experience from junior leagues across North America.
A Freshman Class Poised for Impact
Among the newcomers, forward Sam Caulfield has already shown marked improvement. After transferring to the QMJHL’s Baie‑Comeau Drakkar, he raised his save percentage and cut the goals he allowed, signaling readiness for the college game.
Also arriving is Jefferis, who topped Sioux City with 51 points — 27 goals and 24 assists — in 55 games last season. His ability to generate offense could add depth to Northeastern’s scoring lines.
Defensive Strengths
Defensive depth is another highlight. Defenseman Keefe logged 34 points (8 goals and 26 assists) in 63 games with Drummondville in the QMJHL, leading the Voltigeurs’ blue‑liners in both categories.
Joining him is Noah Laberge, a skilled defenseman drafted by the Buffalo Sabres. In 62 matches he ranked third among all QMJHL blueliners with 49 assists, underscoring his playmaking ability from the back end.
Physical Presence and Skating
Physicality and skating skill round out the group. Sharkey, known for leading the QMJHL in penalty minutes over the past two seasons, also tied for first in Newfoundland with 33 goals in 64 games. Meanwhile, Tourigny led Chicoutimi’s defensemen in postseason play with 8 goals and 16 points before an early exit from the Memorial Cup.
The blend of offensive firepower, defensive reliability, and gritty play suggests that Northeastern’s freshmen could help the program rebound quickly. Coaches and fans alike are watching closely as the new faces integrate into the lineup.
