Northeastern Women’s Soccer Team Suffers First Loss to Yale

A 2-0 defeat at Parsons Field highlights early-season challenges for the young Huskies

A tough start for the Huskies

Northeastern’s women’s soccer squad fell 2-0 to the Yale Bulldogs on August 27, 2025, at Parsons Field in Boston. The loss marked the team’s first collegiate defeat of the season, ending an unbeaten start.

Yale opened the scoring when senior forward Anita Thorvaldsdottir converted a set-piece, and added a second goal later in the half after a dominant midfield stretch. Sophomore forward JoJo DeNegri also found the net, while Abigail Solomon contributed to the build-up that led to the second goal.

Eliza Teplow, the Huskies’ senior goalkeeper, made several key saves, including a diving stop that kept the game within reach despite Yale’s pressure.

Head coach Ashley Phillips reflected on the performance, noting that the team’s youth — seven freshmen — meant the loss was an uncharacteristic test of growth. He emphasized that the experience would inform the squad’s development moving forward.

Despite the setback, Yale’s tactical approach, which leaned on possession and set pieces, gave them control in the latter stages. Northeastern’s Bridget Durkin and Juliana Garcia each tested the Bulldog defense with shots that missed the target.
