Spring Evaluations Across Northwest Louisiana
Spring football workouts have wrapped up across northwest Louisiana, giving coaches a first look at the talent they will rely on when the new season begins. The sessions served as a laboratory for teams to test schemes, assess player readiness, and identify areas that need reinforcement before the 2026 campaign.
At Captain Shreve High School, head coach Jeremy Wilburn is especially encouraged by junior nose guard Charles McIntyre, whom he describes as a force in the trenches, and by a group of promising receivers that includes Chris Hill, Kaleb Law, Malachi Frost and Gabe Lockett. The coach’s optimism reflects a belief that the team’s interior line and passing attack could become significant strengths.
Haughton High School is experimenting with a shift for junior quarterback CT Woodard, moving him to tight end where his size and hands could add a new dimension, while young players like Donald Marshall and Greyson Johnson have shown noticeable improvement in the secondary. Coach Matthew Sewell noted that the defensive unit displayed marked progress despite a rebuilding year that ended with a 2‑8 record.
Natchitoches Central is grooming sophomore quarterback Kobe Jones, who gained valuable reps during spring practice, and has bolstered its roster with baseball standouts Daygen Johnson and Jace Hale. The Chiefs also see depth concerns at running back and along the offensive line, but the additions from the baseball program provide a promising infusion of athleticism.
Overall, coaches across the region are optimistic about the emerging talent, but they also recognize the need for added depth at key positions as they prepare for the upcoming season.
