Northwestern’s men’s basketball program has been recognized with the 2025‑26 National Association of Basketball Coaches Team Academic Excellence Award, underscoring the squad’s commitment to scholarship as well as competition.
Award Criteria and Team Performance
The NABC honors teams that post a collective grade point average of at least 3.0 across the academic year, while individual honorees must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher.
This season the Wildcats posted a team GPA that cleared the 3.0 threshold, a milestone that also secured them a place among nine Big Ten programs receiving the distinction.
Honors Court Selections
Five Wildcats earned spots on the NABC Honors Court, joining a select group that has grown to 12 selections over the past two seasons.
The recurring presence of at least one Northwestern player on the Honors Court for five straight years reflects a sustained academic culture within the program.
Among the honorees, Blake Smith, Gus Hurlburt, Justin Mullins and Nick Martinelli have each achieved the distinction in back‑to‑back seasons, highlighting the program’s ability to develop student‑athletes who excel year after year.
